Join Us on 18 July: Discover How Large Language Models Are Powering Agrifood Applications

On Thursday, 18 July at 13:00 CET, the STELAR and WiseFood Horizon Europe projects will co-host a webinar presenting innovative uses of Large Language Models (LLMs) to support data discovery, personalisation, and integration in the agrifood sector. The session will be held online via Zoom and is open to researchers, data providers, agrifood professionals, and anyone working at the intersection of AI and food systems.
Titled “Empowering Agrifood Applications with LLM-based Dataset Search and Integration,” the webinar will feature researchers and engineers who will showcase tools and methods for improving the use of datasets and metadata in food-related applications.
Participants will learn how project teams are working to enhance searchability in data catalogues, generate structured metadata for cooking recipes, and create new possibilities for personalised meal recommendations based on health and dietary goals.
This is an opportunity to hear directly from the teams behind two Horizon Europe projects applying AI and LLMs in practical agrifood contexts, with space for discussion and questions at the end.
What to Expect
The session will begin with an overview of the STELAR project. Dimitris Skoutas, Principal Researcher at the Information Management Systems Institute of the Athena Research Center (ARC) and coordinator of both STELAR and WiseFood, will present STELAR’s scope and objectives.
Next, Petros Skoufis, Data Science Researcher at the Athena Research Center, will demonstrate how the team is working to improve dataset discoverability by enriching metadata in data catalogues using LLM-driven approaches.
Following this, Dimitris Skoutas will introduce the WiseFood project, highlighting its goals and approach.
Konstantinos Andrikos, R&D Engineer at INFILI Technologies SA, will then present a use case focused on enriching cooking recipe data to support healthy, user-specific food suggestions.
The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session.
The full agenda is as follows:
- Welcome note and agenda overview, Julia Mitrovic (Foodscale Hub (FSH)), 5 min
- Introduction to the STELAR project – Dimitris Skoutas (ARC), 7 min
- Augmenting dataset description and discovery in data catalogues – Petros Skoufis (ARC), 15 min
- Introduction to the WiseFood project – Dimitris Skoutas (ARC), 7 min
- Enriching the descriptions of cooking recipes to support healthy and personalised meal recommendations – Konstantinos Andrikos (INFILI), 15 min
- Q&A session – moderated by Julia Mitrovic (FSH), 10 min
About STELAR and WiseFood
STELAR is a Horizon Europe project running from September 2022 to August 2025. It is building a Knowledge Lake Management System (KLMS) to support smart agriculture and food safety. The KLMS aims to improve access to AI-ready datasets, foster semantic interoperability, and promote intelligent data discovery.
STELAR is now in its final year, and it offers open access to the digital tools its consortium has developed, which are available on GitHub for all those interested.
The WiseFood project, running from 2025 to 2027, is dedicated to empowering citizens to make healthier and more sustainable food choices. At its core, the project aims to provide access to reliable food-related information through artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
WiseFood will also rely on a human-in-the-loop approach, involving food domain experts, to ensure alignment with national policies and guidelines. Living Labs will be designed to co-create the envisioned solutions, ultimately enhancing the overall food ecosystem. This will promote healthier dietary habits, reduce the ecological footprint of food consumption, and cultivate a culture of well-informed and eco-conscious citizens.
