WiseFood Meeting Brings Productive Progress Forward

The two day WiseFood Meeting in Budapest brought project partners together to review progress, test digital tools, and discuss the next stages of development. Hosted at Central European University on 28 and 29 April, the meeting combined practical demonstrations with collaborative discussions.
For readers interested in how research projects move from concepts to usable tools, this meeting offered a closer look at that process. It also showed how shared feedback and discussion help improve ideas before they reach wider use.
Bringing Partners Together in Budapest
The WiseFood Meeting took place in the centre of Budapest at Central European University, bringing together consortium members from across the project. The agenda covered technical progress, communication activities, Living Labs, coordination work, and discussions on future priorities.
A major part of the first day centred on exploring three applications currently being developed within the project.
- FoodScholar introduced an intuitive natural language interface designed to help users explore reliable information related to nutrition, health, and sustainability. Rather than searching through large amounts of material independently, users can access curated and trustworthy food related information more easily.
- RecipeWrangler approached food from a different perspective. The application analyses recipes by considering both nutritional value and environmental impact. It can also suggest alternative approaches that support more sustainable choices while maintaining practical use for everyday situations.
- FoodChat focused on personalised support. The application provides meal plans and recipe suggestions that consider sustainability and reducing food waste. It aims to help users make decisions that fit their own needs and circumstances.
What better way to understand a tool than to use it yourself?
Participants were able to see how the tools work, test them directly, and provide feedback based on their experiences. These sessions created productive conversations around usability, practical improvements, and ideas for future development.
Discussion Beyond Demonstrations
The second day continued with a broader range of topics across the project.
Sessions explored Living Labs and the role they play in testing ideas and gathering feedback in real settings. Discussions also covered communication, exploitation and dissemination activities and plans for sharing project outcomes more widely.
AI robustness and alignment formed another important part of the programme. As digital systems continue developing, ensuring that tools perform reliably and behave as intended remains an important consideration.
Management and coordination discussions helped align activities across different work packages while allowing partners to refine upcoming priorities and actions.
Open discussions throughout the day encouraged participants to raise questions, exchange ideas, and identify areas requiring further work.
After the WiseFood Meeting
As the WiseFood Meeting came to a close, the two days highlighted the importance of collaboration across the consortium. Testing, discussion, and feedback all contribute to improving results and identifying practical next steps.
The social side of the meeting also created space for stronger connections across the consortium. Lunches with views across Budapest offered a chance to continue conversations in a more relaxed setting, while the social dinner brought partners together beyond the meeting rooms and presentations.
With the next stages already being discussed, the WiseFood Meeting marked another step in turning project activities into practical outcomes that can continue evolving through collaboration and shared input.
