As a multicultural university with one third of students and researchers from abroad, international relations is important for the Université libre de Bruxelles.
Its outward-looking position with regard to Europe and the world has resulted in a number of agreements, collaborations and special partnerships being set up with some of the world’s top universities.
Based on the principle of free enquiry that postulates independent reasoning and the rejection of all dogma, the University has retained its original ideals as a free institution that is firmly engaged in the defence of democratic and human values.
Role in the project:
Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) participates in the project with the Data Science and Engineering (DSE) lab, which performs cutting-edge research in the general field of data engineering and data science. A key research area of the ULB team is on responsible data science and AI, where it has developed techniques to audit black box AI systems for data biases and errors, and for algorithmic fairness, as well as techniques to explain opaque, pre-trained ML models based on counterfactual reasoning and robust statistics.
Moreover, the ULB team has a long tradition of acquiring international training programs in the area of data science.
ULB will spearhead WP4 within the WiseFood project, focusing on ensuring the AI’s robustness, alignment, and trustworthiness. In addition to shaping the WiseFood framework, ULB will play a crucial role in crafting the project’s tools and applications, taking the lead in developing the FoodChat tool.
